Bhichit gets 5 years for collusion in BMA land deal
The Court of Appeal on Tuesday sentenced former Bangkok governor Bhichit Rattakul and his former secretary Somkad Suebtrakul each to five years in jail for colluding in corruption related to a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration land purchase 20 years ago.
The court also handed down a seven-year jail term to Chuan Pattanawaranon, former director of Bang Sue district, in the same case.
The case was brought by the National Counter Corruption Commission (NACC).
Special cases prosecutors initially arraigned Mr Bhichit, Yandet Thongsima, a former deputy Bangkok governor, Mahin Tanboonperm, former adviser to the governor, Mr Somkad, former secretary of Mr Bhichit, Prasert Samalapa, former city clerk, Somkuan Rawirat, former director of the Finance Department, Arunpan Kaewmarin, former director of the Finance System Division, and Mr Chuan as the first to eighth defendants.
